Some of the best of Craft Beer Rising 2013

With well over 250 beers on offer, we couldn’t quite manage to try them all. We did try, which is why these notes have only just come to light some time after the event, which we found scrawled in mustard on the back of a peeled-off bottle label. So, here are some of the beers that left an impression on our minds and taste buds.

Celtic Beer Festival 2012 Beer Tastings

Celtic Beer Festival 2012 Beer Tastings: Chris Hall

The Celtic Beer Festival is an annual event held in the cellars of St Austell Brewery in the town of St Austell, Cornwall. I have written a blog about the festival itself, and thought I would share my findings on the many excellent beers that were served there. It’s a great beer festival and one I would highly recommend, not only for the beer but also for the fantastic atmosphere and lively crowd. Below are short reviews of some of the beers I tasted, based on notes crudely scribbled onto the festival programme.

The Boutique RumFest 2012 Rum Tastings

The Boutique 2012 Rum Tasting

We’ve divided the tastings into two categories: RumFest and Boutique. The rums we sampled at RumFest are available in the UK now (with the exception of Don Q Gran Anejo which is coming soon) while the Boutique rums aren’t yet distributed in the UK. The aim of the rum brands represented at Boutique is to obtain a distributor and break into the UK market as soon as possible, so you may see the Boutique rums on bar and shop shelves next month, next year or never at all.

Rum on the River 2012: Chris Hall

In a warm up to this year’s RumFest, the UK’s leading rum exhibition, the Rum on the River event took place on the Thames in London, Thursday 13 September. It helped to showcase the spirit of rum and while it was a ‘closed event’ for rum industry professionals, the ideals, messages, and sheer love of rum demonstrated there can be found at RumFest every year. So, for a taste of RumFest 2012 on 13-14 October in London, join Chris Hall and Matt Cottom on their riverboat journey into the Heart of Rum.
